Chronic Bruxism Elucidated using 3D Imaging with Cone-Beam CT

Three-dimensional imaging has allowed researchers and clinicians to better understand and treat challenging problems in dentistry. One of the most vexing problems is chronic bruxism with an unestablished etiology and pathogenesis. The clinical signs are diverse ranging from more established dental findings such as tooth wear and fracture to more widespread comprehensive signs such as facial changes, dry mouth, halitosis, and caries. Many of the more comprehensive findings are made possible with cone-beam CT imaging. This presentation will introduce and review these signs to aid in understanding and diagnosis of chronic bruxism. Further, the efficacy of occlusal guard treatments vs. neuromodulators will be discussed.
